A Dialogue Between Landscape, Tradition, and Contemporary Living-
Perched on the slopes of the Akuapem Mountain Range in Obosomasi, Courtyard Cascades is a villa designed to immerse its occupants in panoramic views of the valley and city beyond. The home is shaped around a series of cascading courtyards — indoor and outdoor — that step down with the natural terrain. Each courtyard becomes both a breathing space and an anchor, guiding movement through the villa while framing views of sunsets over the hills.

Design Inspiration: Reinterpreting the Courtyard House-
The design draws inspiration from traditional Ghanaian courtyard typologies, reimagined for contemporary life. Courtyards have long been central to West African architecture — places of gathering, cooling, and connection. Here, that tradition is adapted into a modern villa form, balancing openness with privacy, light with shade, and nature with enclosure.

Site & Context-
The steep contours of the Akuapem hills shaped both structure and circulation. By cascading down the site, the villa achieves a natural rhythm between terraces, living spaces, and gardens. The courtyards regulate climate passively, encourage cross ventilation, and stitch together the villa’s sequence of spaces.

Client Vision & Architectural Response-
At its core, Courtyard Cascades reflects the client’s wish for a home deeply connected to its setting. Large openings capture views at every level, while the courtyards create sheltered outdoor rooms for family life. The result is a villa that feels both grounded in Ghanaian tradition and open to the horizon.
